I always think that a travel guide is essential when planning for a vacation. I'm not referring to a getaway of 3-5 days but a trip longer than 7 days.

The internet is a great place to search for unlimited and useful resources. But having a travel guide handy means you can refer to it anytime of the day. Anywhere. You can jot notes, make your own markings, read it, flip it, draw on it... it's yours!

So when I was planning for our New Zealand trip, I bought a Frommer's New Zealand guide from my local bookstore.

From there, I get an overview of the country, did some drafts on my itinerary, work on it and did more research in the internet.
